Hold Me

In the cold winter nights

I needed you there

Your arms around me

In the cool midnight air

In the hot summer days

Resting on the beach

Sitting side by side

Your arms within reach

Rain lashing the window

I’m staring all alone

Holding out for a hug

Just wanting you to phone

The two of us together

At home watching tv

You sitting snugly behind

Your arms wrapped around me

Fighting for survival

Fighting for survival

Everything was going great according to my life plan

I thought I was unbeatable I was the unbeatable man

Working hard everyday being the best I can be

As I believed nothing in this life is for free

Then a routine check up, the doctor sent away my test

He told me to take it easy, as my body needs to rest

I asked him why and what did he expect to find

My thoughts raced around my overactive mind

A letter marked important arrived within a couple of days

The clouds no longer white but a wash with dark greys

My hands shook nervously as I opened it slow

Tragically my life no longer had the morning glow

My heart sank, my life crashed, six months to live

I wanted and needed more, as I have a lot more to give

So much to say to the people I love so very dear

Not being able to say it was my only living fear

I decided to fight this illness the only way I knew

I did so much fighting in the six months, they flew

My aim to help others and show them how to survive

Keeping the illness dead and the people alive

The Brush

All brush has a different job to do

Like painting the walls or cleaning the loo

A brush is used to paint an old wooden fence

Doesn’t cost lots but more than fifty five pence

A tall brush can be used to sweep the dirty floor

If you use a small one your back will be sore

Some have soft bristles while others are hard

You can use them to sweep the leaves off the yard

A fat brush is used to paint a huge wall

If you balance on a ladder be careful not to fall

A thin brush is used to fill in the details

You can’t use any other as that always fails

All brushes are different as you can see

Just like the people around us including you and me

Each one is special we should celebrate success

Be who you are don’t settle for less

A Different Place

The alarm bell rings and I lay silently still

Praying I can convince my mum that I am ill

Frightened and worried about leaving my home

To scared for school so the streets I will roam

My friends think it’s weird that I don’t like this place

But they don’t now the problems that I have to face

The abuse is not only physical but mentally as well

My confidence is shot and I’ve got no one to tell

The other children all happy so why did they choose me

Is it because I’m different from their normally society?

But I won’t change who I am, is that so totally wrong?

I’m hoping they stop hurting me as I’m not that strong

Last night I cried myself to sleep just one last time

Tomorrow I’ll face them and call them on their crime

Battered and bruised I promise I won’t have any regret

With me for life are these the memories I won’t forget?

Dear Mr Gove

Mr Gove I’ve been in teaching for nearly ten years

When I first started I had many nervous fears

Would the children respond to my teaching ways?

Am I ready for those many long working days?

The answer is simple the children did respond

No secret way and I didn’t wave my magic wand

I showed interest in their lives, no problem too small

I even picked them up when they hit the academic wall

Ten years on and a damaging change is in sight

Children aren’t robots and they won’ get everything right

They make many mistakes just like me and you

Please listen to teachers because you haven’t a clue

The children I teach have many social issues

If I told you a story you’d need some 4 ply tissues

Just for them to come into school is a credit beyond belief

For them it’s more than school it’s a short term relief

I, like many, don‘t just teach what the curriculum says

I try to inspire them so they move on to happier days

Give them an opportunity to live their life to the best

So please Mr Gove give your out dated curriculum a rest

I understand Mr Gove that you have to inspect

But please when you do show teachers some respect

Don’t be cruel and judge us before you come in

Relying on statistical data and not looking within

I’m tired Mr Gove of jumping through unnecessary hoops

Ticking boxes and putting children in academic groups

The next generation of teachers will continue the fight

And maybe one day the government will get it right!

We Have A Dream

We have a dream

That we all live forever

Love for each other

And no one dies, ever

We have a dream

That people stop smoking

Live a healthier life

And no more choking

We have a dream

That all money is shared

No more worries

The poor and rich are paired

We have a dream

That people no longer hate

Respect each other

And abandon that trait

We have a dream

That no one gets hurt

Everywhere soft

Including the dirt

We have a dream

That all children are cared for

No more neglect

And happiness at the core

We have a dream

That we all just get along

No discrimination

We can’t see what’s wrong

We have a dream

That will inspire a generation

Positive equality

And no more segregation

We have a dream

That is big and small

Always aiming high

No fear about the fall

We have a dream

That we’ve shared today

Will they come true?

We’ll continue to pray

One Chance

Standing in the distance

Watching you make the wrong choice

Knowing I can’t say anything

Fighting my silent voice

Unable to squash

This burning inferno of fire

Trying to stand out

For it is you that I always admire

To be given a chance

To open your protected heart

To discover our passion

For our relationship to start

Not wanting too much

Just to be given a chance

To treat you right

And have one final dance

You won’t know it

But these words are for you

A hidden message

A relationship is due

A Stranger’s Love

I didn’t know which way to turn

Someone’s advice I did yearn

Making the right decision is hard to do

A decision that affects more than a few

A message on a computer screen

Usually missed but this one seen

Touched me somewhere deep inside

My decision no longer has to hide

A message sent and a reply received

Someone cared who’d have believed

Some how knowing what I need to hear

Putting me at ease releasing the fear

The strength inside to finally move on

Knowing my shyness has finally gone

All this because of a stranger’s love

A stranger sent from someone above?

A Helping Hand

How can I help if I don’t what’s wrong

You’ve bottled this inside for far too long

What ever I do, what ever I say

Can’t do right but hate seeing you this way

I’ll keep my distance until you are ready

Your mind and heart really need to be steady

Don’t like to see you in this downward state

Keep believing in the thing we all call fate

You cried on my shoulder just the other day

Your emotions expressed more that I could say

I put my arms around you and hugged you tight

Together we will have the strength to fight

I’ll continue to give you more than you need

Our friendship more than doing a good deed

If you need to talk anywhere across this land

I’ll simple extend my forever helping hand

Believe in the future

At times the world seems dark

And a scary place to be

Keep searching beyond the now

Eventually the light you’ll see

Your emotions uncontrollable

You want to scream and shout

Wipe away the frustrated tears

Let the tears become a drought

You seem to be fighting the world

Nothing is going right

One more dose of bad luck

You feel like disowning the fight

But things steadily pick up

Your friends close by your side

Suddenly you walk tall

Taking everything in your stride

An unexpected meeting with a stranger

Who offers you a chance

To be part of something special

Now you can have the very last dance

Remember when you’re down

The lowest point to be

Believe in what the future holds

As believing is for free

I'm here waiting

Afraid to lead

Fear rejection all along

Tried to read the signs

And got them always wrong

Lying here alone

Thinking of you day and night

Thinking of the question

Hoping the answer will be right

Fame or fortune

But that doesn’t mean a thing

When will you realise

I want you to wear my ring

Not making sense

The hidden messages inside

The unspoken lines

Let love be our guide

A choice you have

The chemistry elating

Take your time

I’ll always be waiting

A Thousand Stars

You shine so bright

In the midnight sky

The light in my heart

You make the time fly by

My darkest days

There seems no end

I always thank you

For the light you send

More than your smile

More than your eyes

You have a warmth

That lights up the skies

When I glance above

You are always there

Shinning so bright

In the midnight air

Others in your shadow

They just don’t compare

A thousand stars alight

But only you I see up there
