Easter

What does Easter mean to you?

To some it’s buying chocolate for one or two

To others it’s a special celebration

A time when they think about their own religion

It started 40 days ago with lent and fasting

Giving up something good not everlasting

The last week of Lent is called Holy Week

Soon to have chocolate feeling weak

Good Friday upon us and no eating meat

Fish on the menu shows respect and a treat

The crucifixion of Jesus on the cross

Two days later he showed who was boss

Today the festival seems to have lost its cause

With eggs covering people’s living room floors

I’m not religious and don’t want glory

But please remember the real Easter story

Over the Tesco

Over The Tesco

Somewhere over the Tesco

Down Queens Drive

There’s a place that I heard of

Once when I was only five

Somewhere over the Tesco

By the shops

There are some flashing lights

Where all of the traffic stops

Someday I’ll get the coupons out

And shop in a place like Poundland

With offers on all of the time

And people standing in a line

Buying top brands

Someday I’ll get a carrier bag

And bump into an orange wag

Where men walk past with betting slips

Shaking heads and checking their tips

Children playing tag

Somewhere over the Tesco

Not far now

Think I’ll need a taxi

Before I take my final bow

My Home Town

A skyline to rival New York City

A unique place needs no pity

Not long ago a major port

A new identity is surely sought

A transformation from the working docks

A cultural heritage no lego building blocks

Two Cathedrals joined by Hope Street

A place were religion skips to the beat

Blessed with music stars present and past

If this was a show a legendary cast

Some inducted to the hall of fame

Future generations will know their name

A sporting city the world so envious

Many champions all so fabulous

Football, The National, Gymnastics and Boxing

The world watching so intoxicating

Don’t believe what the media say

Come visit us and stay for the day

The people great no heirs or graces

This city on top of your favourite places

Facebook

Facebook

Who could have predicted this Internet phenomenon?

People just thought is couldn’t be done bar one

Creating your own page for others to view

But not just that there’s lots to do

Adding people from present to past

Friends list grows numbers are vast

Building a zoo or even a farm

Playing all night missing the morning alarm

Creating network groups for others to join

Viewing Zoosk and needing another coin

Messaging friends from across the globe

While nosy friends few your page and probe!

Chatting in real time to family or friend

While Candy Crush drives you right round the bend

Making witty comments for others to laugh

Knowing if you could you would use it in the bath

So what’s next I hear your cry

Mark Zuckerberg, what a guy

He may know what will work and what look

What this space for the next Facebook!

The First Kiss

The first Kiss

The end of the first date

She’s now more than a mate

Your eyes now see the love

The rain pours from above

Perfume becomes stronger

The moment seems longer

The seconds tick away

Nothing else left to say

Her breath you almost touch

You want this so so much

Your eyes close not too tight

A perfect end tonight

Finally your lips meet

Hearts skip a tiny beat

Lasting for quite a while

Break, simply stare and smile

 Walking off hand in hand

Sun beating on the sand

New life starts tomorrow

Forget the past, the sorrow

Behind The Mask

Behind The mask

The smile on my face tells half the story

The pain in my eyes shows the unhappy grin

Always trying to do the right thing

Sometimes all I want to do is scream

A different mask for a different occasion

Not really wanting people around

Slowly sinking into a depressive state

Don’t know how to break loose escape

Good times with friends’ laughter on tap

Again falling into the comedy safety net

The mask is different from the one at home

Crossroads a head decisions so hard

Another challenging day with the mask

Trying desperately to complete the job

Don’t want anyone to see the suffering

And so distance is the best way

Cinema Trip

Cinema Trip

Settling down to a pizza and a game

Normal Friday night always the same

The phone lit up a message received

My boredom over finally relieved

An invitation to a film I didn’t know

Didn’t really care just wanted to go

A quick concert in the shower, fixed hair

Not long now I’ll be meeting you there

Drove in the snow extra cautious

Car nearly crashed feeling nauseous

Met Amy and Anna in the car park

Me people watching in the swirling dark

Tickets purchased now for the food

Unusually the service was pleasant not rude

Anna decided quickly which was rather neat

Amy couldn’t decide popcorn salty or sweet

Went through the foyer no pic ‘n’ mix

Straight down the corridor to cinema six

The room was empty no one around

Searching for the best seats for surround sound

The film itself teased you throughout

Always thinking casting some doubt

The actress great, I’m sure she’ll do more

Pleasantly surprised by the English Jude Law

On our leaving the snow falling fast

Conversation flowed mostly about the cast

We say our goodbye to Anna with a smile

Turn to my car looks like a huge snow pile

Amy informed me I was going the wrong way

This was payback for my comments the other day

My side window covered, couldn’t see

Window down slowly, snow fell on me!

Took Amy home we said good night

The snow covered window impairing my sight

Singing in the car as I head back to base

Snow covered roads showing my trace!

The Path of Life

The Path of Life

The path of life takes many a twist and turn

Some rivers crossed some bridges burn

Choices made some with regret

People have past we will not forget

Throughout your childhood you live without fear

Playing games, falling over and shedding a tear

As you look back through rose tinted glasses

Remembering friends in all of your classes

In your teens you meet your fist love

Putting them on a pedestal with no-one above

Finish school and get your first job

Monday morning again you inaudibly sob

The first house you buy is like a noose round your neck

You mortgage so high but hey what the heck

The girlfriend moves in, soon to be your wife

A short engagement now married for life

Not long after and two become three

Happily married, the perfect family

Times passes fast and your child’s in school

Where’s the time gone? Life can be cruel

You grow old gracefully now time to retire

Weekends away by a cosy log fire

Your child now begins to follow a similar path

Guiding them along, do your best not to a laugh

As you sit here rocking on your favourite chair

Looking up to the sky you painfully stare

The cocktail of drugs help the pain to cease

Finally now you can rest in peace

Forest School

Forest School

Forest schools is a simple philosophy

Simply developing the children’s PSE

Leaders on board to spread the word

Not following the normal curriculum herd

Curriculum based on starting with the child

All the research perfectly filed

Allowing the child to learn through play

Embedding skills they’ll use everyday

Working as a group or on their own

At first they begin to moan and groan

But soon their attitude begins to change

As they discover their own personal range

They use tools and build their first fire

They forget they called their leader a liar

The people at school said it wouldn’t work

They started to think you’d gone berserk

As they continue their forest school path

They start to talk, smile and laugh

Happiness restored to that once sad face

A forest school curriculum now in place

The girl with the hidden face

The girl with the hidden face

I saw you last night in an ordinary bar

Couldn’t figure out who you are

I’ve seen you somewhere before I think

I can’t help but stare and sip my drink

Tried all day but can’t get you out of my head

Thought of not seeing you fills me with dread

I need to see you again and again

Losing you would drive me insane

I suddenly realise I let out a scream

You’re the girl from my endless dream

Your face has always been hidden to me

Now I’ve met you, your face I can see

In my head for years you’ve been at the back

I just needed to get on the same perfect track

I’ve put you on a pedestal all these years

Wondering who you are, shedding many tears

You turn out to be a friend of a friend

Your number I get, a message I send

Simple asking to meet up for dinner

Surely I’m on for a perfect dinner

The dinner a hit, a relationship begins

Unquestionable love always wins

A tiny spark is now a huge flame

My eternal light, yours the same

Choices of Life

Choices of life

You choose to be good or bad

You choose to be happy or sad

You choose the path to take

You choose to be real or fake

You choose to smile or frown

You choose to laugh like a clown

You choose to be a good friend

You choose to be there till the end

You choose to stay in your job

You choose to buy or rob

You choose to be early or late

You choose to live off the state

You choose who you are

You choose to raise the bar

You choose if your blood will bleed

You choose the life you lead
