Nice Guys

Some girls go for bad lads

It’s becoming more of the norm

They like the excitement and danger

But for the lads it’s any port in a storm

So why does this happen

Why can’t nice guys win?

Is it the movies that promote it?

Or do some girls like to sin

A nice guy can make a girl laugh

But doesn’t have the right look

They are not so called physically matched

Like in the latest film or book

Nice guys just get used

When the girl is usually bored

They open doors and treat them right

And show them they are adored

Nice guys come in all shapes and sizes

And often do kind things

Some of them write or play instruments

Including piano, percussion and strings

Some people say you need to change

But I certainly don’t agree

It’s about meeting the right lady

And unlocking your heart with her key

Don’t rely on looks alone

And give a nice guy a chance

They’ll treat you with love and respect

And won’t lead you a merry dance

An English Rose

In a garden littered with ordinary flowers

An English rose stands 6ft tall

Beaming from the sunshine above

Other flowers begin to fall

Just like the flowering red rose

You stand out in the ordinary crowd

Your beauty refined and so obvious to me

Walking with you I feel so proud

The rose admired by all who pass

Mesmerised by its red petal

Your eyes a permanent glowing sparkle

For me, I hope, you settle

A garden is never a true garden

Without the flower that you chose

What would it take from little old me?

For you to be my English rose

A Story to Tell

It started as a shout out

To all those who could assist

Helping out others on Christmas Day

How could I resist

Not sure what to expect

Or what my role could be

I was soon put at ease

By our local council MP

He said just be around

And enjoy their conversation

Talk to them and listen

Let your heart have their donation

As I sat with a group on a table

All had an interesting story

Just wanting someone to listen

But not bask in their glory

One an old musician

And another one a writer

The friendship between us

Growing steadily tighter and tighter

A visit by a local star

Started the festive meeting

She sang a beautiful song

And wished us Christmas greeting

The atmosphere warm

As the wind blew outside

The local MP quite rightly

Stood their beaming with pride

Christmas day now over

The pensioners never alone

Community spirit alive and well

Loneliness finally flown

So the plans for next year

Well and truly under way

If you are free anytime then

Come join us on Christmas Day

A Christmas Wish

As I stare in to the moonlit sky

Looking for the brightest star

I want to wish a happy Christmas

To friends both near and far

Although we may not be together

Throughout the whole dam year

You are always in my thoughts

For that you have no fear

On this coming Christmas day

I’ll raise a glass or two

For friendship over the year

Friendship between me and you

And when I’m left alone

Sitting at home as one

I’ll think of all those special fiends

Who sadly have passed on

But for now let’s spread some Christmas spirit

As our friendship will never part

My Christmas wish is a simple one

May you have love in your hear

Innocent Eyes

As I looked into your young beautiful eyes

They told of truth without any lies

Not aware of the rocky road that may lie ahead

The hurting words that somebody has said

Seeing the world as pure as it can be

From the tallest mountain to the deepest sea

A picturesque scene of a child in the park

The light shines bright with no hint of dark

As you grow old with obvious outside influence

You have to be strong and have your own inference

Who you are guided by plays an important part

As sometimes you have to let your head rule your heart

Try not to be judgemental and treat others with respect

Don’t let ignorant people abuse their power and infect

See the best in people and give them a second chance

Don’t let selfish people lead you a merry dance

And if all else fails you will always have me

My love so pure and my advice always free

A caring shoulder for you when your heart cries

Please hold on to those beautiful innocent eyes

Have we moved on?

So children are able to use the latest ipad

Choosing their apps paid for by mum or dad

They click the screen and it all appears

How technology has moved throughout the years

But the question is, are children really that clever?

A previous generation unable to do it but will endeavour

More children starting school from behind expectation

Blaming teachers again is a tired accusation

Generations before their minds would do the thinking

Now the computers do it all and their minds are sinking

A Pen, some paper and your brain is all you really need

I can’t to it, pass me my phone the children simply plead

We’ve created a generation of accepting a lazy mind

When, as a generation, we are falling behind

Now in schools we have the latest gadget toy

Is this the governments and manufactures ploy?

I think it’s time to save our poor little nation

And throw away the gadgets without hesitation

Of course they have a place in our modern society

We should embrace technology and its variety

I’m not being negative about the next generation

But I fear their minds will soon be in extinction

They rely too much on a technological device

And will not listen to this simple advice

Expand your minds with learning how to write

Get a lamp next to your bed to read a book at night

Visit new places and explore their culture with care

Put down your ipads go on I dare!

I should have read the sign

A simple gesture that I didn’t see

A gesture that should have set my heart free

You gave me your number and I gave you a call

Trying to be funny so my emotions wouldn’t fall

Another night out with a mutual friend

Me oblivious to the signals that you send

You grab my hand and we held on tight

We looked at each other and the moment was right

In my head I always thought wanted to be a mate

Until someone told me you wanted to be my date

I took the plunge, took a deep breath and asked you out

Your refusal had me believing my doubt

My timing was late and she had quickly moved on

Apparently this time she had found the one

Why can’t I cross the relationship line?

I should have read the that simple sign

Mandela

A sad day that we’ll remember for a long time

A true hero who had the highest mountain to climb

Not wanting to give up and strive for anti-apartheid

This was the day the world stood still and cried

Suffering racial abuse throughout his years

Not wanting the next generation to have these fears

He fought for his freedom in a non violent way

Didn’t show hatred towards the people who put him away

He inspired so many to live a peaceful life

He approached the people when the country was in strife

Demanding that they follow his lead

Instead of wanting their own personal greed

Always wanting to forgive but not forgetting the past

Hoping that his reconciliation legacy will continue to last

A human being who saw the world in a different view

Trying to make the globe a better place for me and you

So many causes he helped along his remarkable ride

Leaving behind a country that now beams with pride

He spoke so gently but everyone listened with ease

Let’s carry on his legacy; I’m urging you, please

Exhaustion

Too tired to move but I just can’t stop

Washing, ironing and then a trip to the shop

Life has to continue but I want it to pause

Don’t know the answer or what’s the cause?

Is it simply getting old or something else inside?

Trying to continue while this illness I hide

Others still expecting to give life my all

While I seem to struggle over an imaginative wall

My body so weak but my head still strong

The days of exhaustion still far too long

Hours pass by and the minutes slowly tick

Needing help with this exhaustion and so very quick

Some days I struggle to climb out of my bed

Attempting to move but my body like lead

People call me names but not to my face

If only my exhaustion I could seriously replace

So next time you see me and I say I’m alright

Unable to tell you I’ve had another sleepless night

Crying with the pain but only on the inside

Exhaustion is something I’ll just have to abide

Keeping the Dream Alive

Another idea that I quickly write down

My imagination spinning round and round

Who will see the written work that I do

Most of it hidden from the world we view

My thoughts captured in what I write

Some of them heavy some of them light

Feelings that I can’t say face to face

Through my writing I enter another place

If I could just get a single opportunity ajar

I’m positive my work would go very far

I’m not expecting it to happen straight away

But I’ll keep knocking for that opportunity one day

Who knows what really lies ahead

Keep trying my friend encouragingly said

The knock backs will make me that bit stronger

Hoping the success lasts a little bit longer

Writing, stand-up and acting on the stage

Some of the skills on my entertainment page

When there is an audience I always thrive

So please help me keep my dream alive
