Waiting for Gateaux review

Review: Waiting for Gateaux

After seeing the posters and judging the title, I didn’t quite know what to expect for this show.  I knew it was a comedy but what type of comedy would it be?

I can honestly say that there aren’t too many times I have laughed out loud in a theatre watching a show but I did at this, and on numerous occasions.  The witty one liners delivered beautifully by the cast.  Granted some of the one liners came and went with only a little titter but that’s the beauty when you think only a few people got the joke, made you feel special!

Often in a comedy play the jokes are forced with the set up very obvious and of course there were some of these in this show but again with the delivery it only enhanced the joke.  The cast were very well suited to the parts they played and seemed a very close nit group.  The main male (Played by Andy Ford) character had an accent that made everything seem funny and his physical expression made him a joy to watch.

All the female cast stood out on their own and you believed their character.  Pauline Daniels, as you would expect, delivered lines in a good comedic style that effortlessly flew off her tongue.  Lynn Francis was very entertaining and had great chemistry with Emma Lisi, who was the youngest member of the cast and looked like she had been acting for years.  Suzanne Collins time and again delivers a great performance, and thrives in the role of posh Sophie.

All in all if you want a good laugh then this is the play for you.  It gives you an insight into all those fitness class, diet classes and yoga classes.  If you are not on your feet at the end of the show then they must be nailed to the floor!

Where the Wind Blows

Like a balloon floating into the unknown

No one knows what the future holds

The opportunity has passed already flown

We continue searching for life’s golds

A Wind enraging like a ten force gale

A decision that needs to be made

Take a gamble now and pull the main sail

Hoping the wind will eventually fade

Swirling around a tornado approaches

Thoughts spinning effortlessly in your mind

An idea, a solution finally encroaches

You begin to steadily unwind

Life like the wind is unpredictable

A continuing journey that ebbs and flows

Like a myth or even a fable

Be adventurous and go where the wind blows

What I See

A dog walker walking her precious dog
A runner behind going for a jog
A simple ‘Morning’ and a friendly wave
Going under a bridge, like entering a cave

Pass another boat so lifeless and still
The breeze in the air gives the morning a chill
A farmhouse detached from the world around
Animals in the distance making animal sound

Trees over hanging like hands waiting to snatch
Fishermen on the bank waiting patiently for a catch
Houses behind a fence with eyes shining through
A boat approaches ‘Good morning to you’

A bend and a twist nearly at our destination
Full speed ahead without hesitation
A duckling swims by and greets us with a smile
It could be a crocodile if we were on the Nile

Passing me by

It’s not a race to see who wins

No prize at the end of the line

Not looking back to judge life’s sins

Searching for that unmissable sign

Keeping up with society and its rules

Chasing your tails, always wanting more

People taking time out, they’re no fools

Be adventurous, and open the country door

A simple walk along the canal side

The fresh air pounding your face

A spring in your step, a sudden glide

This freshness you can’t replace

Back in the city the dirt and smog

Running out of time, moving fast

Head filled with a timetable log

Life cut short, it won’t last

Broken Path

I didn’t say I knew, I just said I understand

How could I imagine life in your forgotten land?

I know times were tough but you stayed on so strong

You moved around not knowing where you really belong

Chorus

One step at a time, hold your head up high

The past has gone it’s time to say goodbye

Wipe away the tears, time to move on

At last the broken path has finally gone

The broken path behind you the cracks in the past

Life starting over and you’re throwing another cast

Cracks getting smaller now a river of stepping stone

Now the I has become we, you won’t face life alone

Bridge

Just try to hold on I’ll be there as soon as I can, hoping that I’ve got enough to be your only man

Our paths have reached a crossing, a fork in the road; let me help you lighten the load

We found each other alone as our broken paths met

The day in our hearts, the time we won’t ever forget

I’ll hold you hand tight and I’ll never let you go

We’ll make the path smooth, taking it nice and slow

Save the World

It seems such a difficult task but one that can be achieved

We all need to work together for our dream to be believed

A small kind gesture on your part can have a domino effect

But first we need to take time out, take time out to reflect

Chorus

We can save the world, it’s not too late to change

Start to do the right thing, at first it’ll feel strange

Respect your self before respecting others

Save the world now for our sisters and brothers

It’s about being kind and going that extra mile

Walking past strangers and giving them a smile

Changing your attitude and changing your mind

Open your eyes and see what you can find

Negativity is our enemy we must fight to erase from our space

Sometimes it’s difficult and we need to get out of this place

We can’t see the people it hurts they hide it well behind the tears

Be there for each other, no one should live with their fears

The next generation growing up living with our mistakes

In a world were some people give but everyone takes

Were being kind, selfless and generous is no longer the norm

The new world giving us a unstoppable hatred storm

Bridge

Help us all to do what’s right give people the chance to glow

Start by saying yes and not the never changing no

Switch on the light

Another night, stars disappear

Clouds up above, the sky’s not clear

Shadows around, night closes in

Haunted thoughts, surely a sin

Chorus

Switch on the light let the light shine through

Switch on the light I’ll make it bright for you

The darkness has gone now let us both shine

Standing together now you are mine

Switch on the light let the light shine bright

Switch on the light the moment feels right

The shadows have passed they haunt no more

No darkness around now I’ve found the cure

Loneliness hit me, it hit me hard

You were gone, I put up my guard

No one allowed in, kept at bay

Broken heart, the price I’ll pay

Looked around, no-one stood out

Initial thoughts, I had my doubt

What I want, I didn’t know

Which way to turn,Which way to go

Bridge

Clouds have passed thunder rolled on by, only the sun left standing in the sky

Answers flowing fast in the light, no more questions no more asking why

Open your eyes, you will see

I’ve got a lock, you’ve got a key

Is this a start, a new beginning

No more losing, only winning
