A True Champion

It seemed a special tournament right from the start

Big names falling and Andy blowing others apart

Nadal went early and Federer soon followed

‘Come on Andy’ the crowd loudly bellowed

Into the semi final and the nerves soon began

The pressure of the nation together as one fan

After a nervous beginning he was soon in his stride

To lift the nation and let us beam with pride

Sunday upon us and a glorious day a head

‘I’ll do my best’ is what Andy quietly said

Playing down the expectation but will it work

You know if he wins the nation will go berserk

He enters centre court with his professional face

After 77 years of waiting history could take place

His desire to make every ball and deliver the perfect shot

Down the line, cross court he kept pulling them from the pot

The crowd looking on from good old Henman Hill

Some people unable to watch, feeling quite ill

The final shot of the match and a standing ovation

A Scottish tennis player that lifted the British Nation

At last a British Champion at SW19

Fred Perry was the last one the nation had seen

We hope the next one comes along in a hurry

But for now the Wimbledon Champion is our own Andy Murray
