The Sun Has Finally Arrived

We’ve been waiting for this weekend since the beginning of May

How long will it last, who can say?

You clean your sunglasses and get out the summer chairs

Two of them your neighbours, you forgot you borrowed theirs

The smell of a BBQ from the gardens all around

The children in the paddling pool making a joyful sound

Dad’s beer in the cold ice bucket ready to drink

The wine in the cooler mum’s missing link

Families playing sports in the overcrowded park

Not wanting to move until it’s very nearly dark

Kites flying high with the help of the breeze

Children drinking a slush and getting a brain freeze

Picnics set out with strawberries and cream

This is the life we all dare to dream

Relaxing on the lounger definitely Pimms O’clock

Fruits at the ready and a mountain of ice in stock

A few families get together for a rounders match

Dad looking grumpy as some kid made a catch

Mum laughs as Dad walks back with shame

Trying to remember the kid’s unusual name

The ice cream van with a queue a mile long

A woman walks past trying to hide her visible thong

A delicious ice cream with a simple chocolate flake

The weather so hot we may all begin to bake

A few people red they’ll be sore tomorrow

Surely someone had sun tan lotion they could borrow

Strap marks down to try and sort out their tan

A child running round with a battery powered fan

The weather looks like its set for a short while

Which will hopefully make people muster a smile?

A party or gathering with a few crazy friends

Best get planning for the next couple of weekends
